No awkwardness here! Trudeau and Macron greeted each other with an immediate handshake before making a seamless transition into that half-hug thing that really tight friends do. With a pat on the back and a momentary embrace, the two leaders shared a touching welcome.

The elite sub-party

As Gilmore Girls character Logan Huntzberger once said, "Lesson one in coping with painfully boring parties, form a sub-party." Now, while a massive gathering of important world leaders is probably farfrom boring, Trudeau and Macron are definitely in sub-party mode. They are standing mere feet away from the place where Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin met, but do they CARE? No. They are the only two people in the room.
