Faceswaps are inherently pretty terrifying.
Who thought this was a good idea? The proportions never align just right, and it always veers right into uncanny valley territory. Especially when you're trying to swap your face with an inanimate object.
Earlier this week, Twitter user @tabisuru_ayaka posted a photo of her son's face swapped with Thomas the Tank Engine. It's a mashup of creepy and cute, but mostly just unsettling.
This Tweet is currently unavailable. It might be loading or has been removed.
The comments section are full of responses to the nightmare fuel-adjacent quality of the photo. I mean, just look at those eyes. There are also comparisons to terrifying figures, like Jeff the Killer and Momo.
The photo was originally posted under a viral hashtag going around Japanese Twitter, which roughly translates to "shocking parenting photos." The tag is filled with parents sharing photos of their kids making similarly creepy faces, or just getting into awkward situations.
Faceswaps can be hilariously creepy, so let's have a laugh and hop on the train to the Cursed Image section of the internet.
